WEST SHORE PARKS AND RECREATION (2013-Present)

After School Care Leader, Summer Camp Leader, Special Event Team Lead

and Social Club Program Instructor

 

Since starting as a Summer Camp Leader for West Shore Parks and Recreation in the summer of 2013 I have held numerous roles since then. Many of my positions have involved developing, implementing and leading a variety of programs for kids ages 5 to 12.

 

In addition to these responsibilties as a kids program leader I have been a part of assisting the Community Development Coordinator with the preparation and operation of a variety of special events including mothers day, heritage days and christmas light ups. On the day of events I have been responsible for supervising and delegating responsibilites to event staff, while maintaining a positive and fun working environment.

 

Lastly, during another employee's absence I was responsible for overseeing

the social club program and volunteers, while fostering a welcoming environment

for all patrons with mental and physical disabilities.

 

 

UCLUELET PARKS AND RECREATION (Summer 2012)

Summer Camp Coordinator

 

As the Summer Day Camp Coordinator I developed, implemented and led summer camp programs for kids between the ages of 5 and 12. Although I spent most of the summer instructing programs a large part of my position prior to camp starting included the following responsibilities:

  • Oversaw the bookings and day to day needs of contract summer programs

  • Contribute to the development of marketing strategies for summer programs

  • Assist with the organization and operations of special events.

  • Manage basic administrative and customer service dutes relative to the position

 

 

PARKWOOD COURT RETIREMENT LIVING (2011-2013)

Recreation Assistant

As a recreation assitant I assisted the Recreation Director with the planning, organization and implementation of meaningful programs for residents. Programs included fitness classes, art classes, word games, ice cream social hours, happy hour weekly events and Saturday Bingo games. In addition, I also organized department records which included assessments and evalutations of planned programs detailing individual participation. SHADOW LAKE CAMP (Summer 2011)

Activity Staff

Shadow Lake Camp, owned by Community Living Toronto, provides residential camping programs for people with an intellectual disability living the the Metro Toronto Area. Previous to working as an Activity Staff at the camp I initieally worked on the maintance team for 2 summers, which is where I built friendships with many of the campers and fell in love with the unique experience that it provided for its guests. As an Activity Staff I planned and accompanied campers in daily recreation programs for campers, as well as special weekly events. All programs were inclusive for varying disabilities and interests and were also adaptable for wheel chair users. Examples of programs and events are as follows:  

  • Waterfront activities (Swimming, Canoeing, Paddle Boating, Pontoo Boat Rides)

  • Sports (Basketball, Soccer, etc.)

  • Board Game Parties 

  • Trail Hikes and Driveway Walks

  • Circle Games

  • Campfire Songs and Skits

  • Arts and Crafts

  • Talent Show

  • Movie Nights

  • Haunted House Maze in the barn
